"Brigid" Perseverance & New Growth
Brigid “Goddess born from fire” is sometimes seen wearing a cloak of sunbeams and is a triple Goddess of Poetry, Healing and Smithcraft. She is also expressed as Maiden (in poetry and other forms of creative expression), Mother (in her immense healing abilities), and Crone (in craft and the use of one’s hands). Her spirit is so fierce that even when Christianity spread through Ireland, her flame was not put out, but instead she became a Saint. St. Brigid. This is how she is often referred to today. One way we can connect with her is through water. There are many wells that are sacred to Brigid that can be found throughout the Celtic lands. We can also connect with her through fire. She has been called the Flame of Ireland or Fiery Arrow. In myth, Brigid was born at sunrise and a tower of flame connected her from earth to the heavens. Legend says that throughout the centuries, 19 priestesses tended Brigid’s perpetual flame for a 24-hour period each, and on the 20th day, Brigid would tend the flame herself. This continues to this day in symbolic form as well within her temple. She is a great protector, especially of mothers and newborns, wild animals and is a patroness of poets. In this essence, her inspiration combined with Northern White Cedar and Smokey Amethyst, encourages us to stay steadfast as we clear out old energy to tend to the fire within ourselves. We can then welcome and embrace new growth, with protection as we go through this transformation.
Northern White Cedar protects and purifies. It aids one in clearing negativity, and propelling ourselves out of our comfort zone, to then know how to persevere on life’s path. This wise tree helps us to listen to our heart, encouraging new growth and tolerance of the unknown.
Smokey Amethyst is a combination of Amethyst and Smokey Quartz. It opens the third eye and crown chakras to access spiritual energy and then grounds those energies through the base chakra. It is a stone that aids in detox of stress and fear and cleansing of body and soul bringing the higher self to light.
Her inspiration to me: I am the fire that lights up the dark night sky. A Goddess leads me. She is a white light, sparkly and bright. With love, grace and fierce conviction.
